Conscious Awakening! Rebel With (and for) A Cause! A new day, a new challenge…Let me ask you, when you look in the mirror what do you see? While not without fault or flaw, do you see genuine truth, strength, authenticity, integrity, hope, joy, fearlessness, faith, laughter, compassion, caring, beauty, light and love?
Or, do you see layer upon layer of the masks you have accumulated? As you begin to strip off the masks that you show to the world, there it is, hidden in the shadows, the revelation of your true self: your pain, guilt, shame, judgement, addiction, hate, anxiety, feelings of unworthiness…?
The longer you stare, the more anger, self-pity, fear, anxiety and self-loathing creeps in. You question everything. You begin to underestimate your capabilities, your talents, your strengths. Your energy drained.
Low energy attracts more of the same. Negative thoughts overtake our minds. Fear, anger, guilt, hate, and shame consume us. We turn away from those who truly care for us or worse yet, we push them away. We try to control others because we have lost control of ourselves. We begin to attract those who wear the same masks as we do: a group of weakened souls, consciously or unconsciously, spreading negative energy which often manifests into negative words, behaviors and deeds.
The ego takes control and we become at war with ourselves. We can no longer take accountability for our actions because the ego says, “Who me? I am never at fault!” The ego attacks and places blame on others and we would rather be right at any cost rather than speak the truth and be at peace.
Many times, the ego rises to power due to some unresolved trauma of the past. When a memory of this event is triggered, instead of having learned to process in a healthy way, we enter “survival at any price” mode. We will do anything in your battle to gain victory including hurting those around us and eventually causing our own self-destruction.
What must occur is awareness or, in other words, our own personal rock bottom. It is only then that a power greater than our mind and ego can enter our lives. Once we experience this awareness, freedom from ego can be obtained. It is our purpose–to bring positive presence to ourselves; present now, in this moment (not in the past, not in the future).
Today is a new day and one where I challenge each of us to become a rebel! It’s time to remove and throw down those masks; shatter them on the cold hard ground.
Now is the time to be raw, accountable, gut-wrenchingly honest and vulnerable and it begins with the person in the mirror. When life is pressing us hardest—deal with the problem or issue rather than masking it with a smile, alcohol, food, or drugs. A breakthrough is just around the bend. Take off the masks so we can see that the door is unlocked–all we need to do is to open it.
It’s time to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Everyday, we have an opportunity to change our life story and to be the greatest version of ourselves; the way we are created to be! Today is the day we rebel against how society tells us how we must look, what we must wear, how to think, what to watch, read and listen to. Today is the day we take back our lives, and the day we stand up to social injustices by fighting for each other not with each other. We must be the change to cause the change we desire.
This begins with our own self, our own choices, our own accountability. Once we have accepted self-awareness and accountability, we can then commit wholeheartedly to change. We have to make different and wiser choices, not because someone else is telling us to do so, but because we desire change. We must move forward as we no longer live in or because of your past. It is not good enough to dream or wish or hope someone else does the work: WE must take action.
One day, we will look back and realize just how much wasted time we spent carrying guilt and shame, feeding our egos and worrying about things that aren’t necessary and have no purpose (fear, anger, complacency, hate, etc.). This is certainly not living.
I look forward to the day when we can all look in the mirror without a mask on and see nothing but peace, joy, compassion, action, faith, truth, light, happiness and love! If we can each achieve that, we can confidently pass it on and share with others in love. ?
Remember Rev. Michael Curry’s sermon at the recent royal wedding: “There is power in love. Do not underestimate it. Don’t even over-sentimentalize it. Oh there’s power, there’s power in love. Not just in its romantic forms, but in any form, any shape of love. There’s a certain sense in which when you are loved and you know it, when someone cares for you and you know it, when you love and you show it, it actually feels right. There’s something right about it. And there is a reason for it. The reason has to do with the source. We were made by a power of love. Our lives were and are meant to be lived in that love. That’s why we are here.”❤
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we discover that, we will be able to make of this old world a new world. Love is the only way.” ❤
So, today, I ask you rise up and take the challenge. Be a Rebel with a Cause. It begins with loving ourselves first. Now there’s a rebellion if I ever heard one. LOVE OURSELVES! Then, as stated by the great Creator: LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS AS OURSELVES! Imagine how beautiful the world would be!
